Here’s what PTO accomplished this year!

  • We provided much-needed funds for numerous clubs and activities.

  • We provided scholarships to make sure that every HPHS student can participate in activities and school trips – regardless of ability to pay! PTO scholarship funds are discretely distributed by Anita Weis, Counseling Chair.

  • We built a permanent concession stand near the Exhibition Gym so students won’t go hungry when they participate in after-school sporting events and activities!

  • Speaking of food … Our Social/Hospitality Committee, chaired by Cindy Clamage and Bonnie Bomberg, provided delicious treats at Open House (including the faculty dinner), Activities Night, Honors Night, Staff Appreciation Tea, Career Night, etc.; and our annual Freshman Breakfast welcomed our newest Giants thanks to Holly Ginsburg, Peggy Orloff, and their committee.

  • All Back-to-school Book Sales were well-staffed thanks to Pam Rothenberg, Mary Kaltman, Karen Friedlich, Ilene Tucker, Peggy Glickman, Bonnie Flanzer, Barb Pinzur, Nancy Klein, Jill Bernstein, Jill Katlin, and their volunteers.

  • Thanks to Patty Pell and Wendy Kleper-Entratter, seniors can look forward to another successful Grad Night lock-in and sunrise breakfast! This committee designed the senior T-shirt, raised funds, prepared Senior Tribute Cards, and organized and staffed the event – all in furtherance of a very special (and safe!) HPHS tradition.

  • PTO promoted communications … thanks to Jean Sogin, who published the PTO Newsletters; Leslie Kind and Patty Pell, who organized Newsletter and Shoreline Distribution; Terry Vismantas, who organized special "Java With Jack" breakfasts and lunches (new this year!) so parents can informally chat with Principal Lorenz; Noreen Linsky, who published our invaluable Parent Directory; Mitch Pollakoff, our PTO webmaster; and our new PTO Newsletter column, Giant Hugs!

  • We promoted parent education … through our Newsletter Prevention Connection columns – thanks to Sandi Scheinbaum and Michelle Morris; our "Developmental Assets" committee -- thanks to Terri Olian and Donna Fischer; and our Parent Education committee – thanks to Linda Schneider, Jill Doherty, and Marni Lewis.

  • We promoted the arts … by co-sponsoring Focus on the Arts, one of the premier high school arts programs in the nation, chaired by Donna Elrod, Cindy Elkins, and Barb Winer; and through our Fine Arts Chairs Gwynne Chovanec and Marilyn Greenberg.

  • We published the annual PTO Calendar -- thanks to Sharon Kilbanow.

  • Our Discretionary Committee (Karen Kohn, Barbara Mehlman, Judy Levy and Denise Emer screened funding requests from numerous student clubs, while the Fundraising Committee (Judy Fenton, Gail Stein, and Wendy Kleper-Entratter) explored ways to increase resources.

  • The PTO Membership drive owes its success to Julie Hainsfurther and Susan Poeta.

  • Our Nominating Committee slated a great board for next year, thanks to Peggy Glickman and Ilene Tucker.

  • Our diligent School Board Liaison Linda Schneider, kept us informed of Board issues.

  • Our Student Activities Committee, chaired by Kathy Sullivan, provided invaluable support to Activities Director Lesa Friedrich.

  • And every parent who joined PTO helped support all of these projects and programs!

  • We hope you help us make next year as successful!

With sincere thanks from PTO Co-Presidents -- Judy Silverman, Linda Feinstein; Co-Vice Presidents -- Pam Rothenberg, Ellyn Samsky; Secretary -- Bobbie Hinden; Treasurer --Wendy Kleper-Entratter; Member-at-Large -- Joanne Kirshenbaum.
